One major issue most people are concerned about when it comes to weight loss is having loose, saggy skin after they shed off their excess fats. This is the case especially for women who want to look fit and sexy, but rather end up wearing a “loose suit” after undergoing a weight loss regimen. Is there anything one can do to avoid having saggy skin after doing a weight loss therapy?

First, saggy skin is a natural effect of losing weight, for it is where the fats were once stored. Now that you have shed off those pounds, of course all those fats have left their storage space, resulting to loose skin. If you are too anxious to have a beautiful, fit body in a shorter span of time, then you can go for the first option: surgery.
According to Dr. Alan Gold, president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, a lot of patients knock on the doors of plastic surgeons to get rid of the loose skin they gained from weight loss treatments. Surgery however can be very costly, with an average of $5000 for doctor’s fees alone for a tummy tuck. Some insurance policies do cover tummy tucks and other body-sculpting surgeries, especially to patients who have incurred problems such as skin irritations due to loose, excess skin.
But we all know that not everyone needs surgery (nor can everybody afford to undergo surgery) just to get rid of saggy skin.
To those who cannot afford to go to a surgeon, or who does not really consider surgery as a solution to gain a fit, firm birthday suit, then her are what medical experts can say:
“People whose body mass index is between 25 and 30 may feel a slight jiggle after losing weight,” says John Jakicic, director of the Physical Activity and Weight Management Research Center at the University of Pittsburgh. “Obese individuals meanwhile who have a BMI of 30 and above may gain excess skin after shedding off a significant amount of pounds.”
The same case applies to patients who underwent gastric bypass surgery, as they would have lost as much as 50% of body weight after operation. The skin by then would not be as elastic as it was before, thus it would be difficult for it to tighten. But it is not only rapid weight loss that contributes to loose skin- factors such as smoking, the presence of stretch marks, genetics and sun damage also play a big role in skin resiliency.

So, if there’s another option you can do to avoid saggy skin, what you must do is to focus on a gradual weight loss regimen. This includes proper diet and exercise. Exercise reconditions the muscles under the skin and help it become elastic, thus allowing you to look better after losing weight. Muscles would also grow bigger through exercise, thus it will take up the space excess fat left after weight loss.

Do your own research — you’ll see that everything noted in the book is accurate. As for me, the only thing I see that would prevent someone from not succeeding with this program is not following the directions EXACTLY as written. This book was a huge eye opener to me in answering my questions about feeling sluggish, weighted down with lack of overall energy or vitality.
