Fighting Adrenal Fatigue: The Recommended Diet

Adrenal fatigue can be treated by adequate rest, lifestyle discipline, exercise and of course, proper diet. By following the right kind of diet, your body’s nutritional needs will be properly sustained and replenished, thus leading you back to your old, healthy self.

When to Eat

Persons suffering from adrenal fatigue experience blood sugar level fluctuations, thus it is important that you know not only the foods you should eat, but when to eat them as well. By having your meals at regular intervals and schedules, you can regulate the increase or decrease of blood sugar levels, and bring back your adrenal health.

If you are experiencing adrenal fatigue, it is best that you eat breakfast before 10 in the morning, as this is the time when the blood sugar levels peak at their highest, and it is also the best time to replenish all the lost blood sugar used during the night. Lunch should be served before noon as most of the sugar you consumed during breakfast has already been used, and afterwards an afternoon nutritious snack should be taken to keep up with your cortisol needs throughout the rest of the day. An evening meal can be taken around 5 to 6 PM and a bedtime snack should be served to help you fall into slumber.

What to Eat

A good adrenal diet consists of mostly natural foods made up fresh vegetables, nuts and moderate amounts of carbohydrates and fat. Whole grains help a lot in providing regular energy as one goes through the rest of the day, as unlike sweets and processed foods which are easily converted into energy, grains take time to be digested and do not easily let your energy levels drop.

Salt provides a lot of benefits to combat adrenal fatigue. Preferably use sea salts or Celtic salt in your foods as they have more vital nutrients as compared to regular table salt. Meanwhile, proteins also are essential in fighting adrenal fatigue, and this should come from fresh meats, eggs, dairy and legumes. As much as possible avoid processed proteins as they have less nutritional value as compared to fresh produce.

Vegetables should make up a big percentage of each and every meal. Your serving of veggies should be comprised of highly colored produce since these represent various essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, not to mention high amounts of fiber. Vegetables should be eaten raw or lightly cooked.

Unlike other diets, people suffering from adrenal fatigue should avoid eating too much fruits, as their sugar content affects your blood sugar levels especially in the morning. Fructose and potassium can worsen your adrenals.
