You can see in various commercials, articles and advertisements that whole-grain food is better than white flour products such as pasta, white bread and waffles. According to various studies, whole-grain based products have higher nutritional value and are safer to a person’s body and overall health. But how is it so?

First, whole grain foods have more fiber as compared to white flour products. Fiber helps a lot in speeding up the digestive system and allows your body to absorb more nutrients. It also increases the body’s ability to eliminate waste faster and more consistently by removing the elements the block the excretory tract.

Second, due to the high fiber content, whole grain foods make a person feel fuller for a longer period of time. Unlike white flour foods which contain high carb content, whole-grain meals can keep you satiated for longer hours, thus you won’t feel hungry even just 2-3 hours after eating a heavy meal.

But how do you know that the product is made of whole grain?

In order to inform consumers of whole grain products, the whole-grain stamp is now marked on the cover labels so that they won’t have to read the nutrition chart rigidly while buying stuff in the grocery. The stamp can be found in various foods such as baking mixes, snack bars, breads, cereals, entrees, pizza, pasta, tortillas, etc.

The stamp is usually dark yellow and says: WHOLE GRAIN Good Source, or WHOLE GRAIN Excellent Source.

Disclaimer: Just you see that the bread is brown, it doesn’t mean that it’s whole wheat. It can still be made of white flour and only got the color due to coloring or molasses.
